Hiyashi tomato is exactly what it sounds like: ripe tomatoes served properly cold. It is simple, refreshing and very Japanese in spirit — good ingredients, minimal interference. Here, a tiny touch of soy sauce and sesame oil echoes the flavors of the chicken without turning the tomatoes into a heavy salad.
Ingredients
2 medium ripe tomatoes
Salt
1/2 osaji soy sauce
1/2 osaji sesame seed oil
Steps
1. Chill the tomatoes thoroughly in the refrigerator. They should be properly cold when served.
2. Just before you serve, remove the cores and cut each tomato into wedges.
3. Arrange the wedges on a plate and sprinkle with a very small pinch of salt.
4. Drizzle very lightly with soy sauce and sesame oil. Use restraint — the tomatoes should still taste primarily of ripe tomato.
5. Serve cold
